Dr. Charles Schumacher is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon whose clinical practice and research have focused on the treatment of complex pain conditions, including inflammatory, neuropathic, and central nervous system-mediated pain disorders. Throughout his career, he has treated patients suffering from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), chronic musculoskeletal pain, and other debilitating conditions for which effective therapeutic options remain limited.

Dr. Schumacher earned his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center and completed a General Surgery Internship and Orthopedic Residency through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Joint Replacement and Reconstruction at Stanford University, where he participated in multiple research collaborations, followed by a Traveling Hip Fellowship in Zürich, Switzerland. His firsthand experience caring for patients with severe pain conditions aligns closely with BRC Therapeutics’ mission to develop novel cannabinoid-based medicines for patients suffering from unmet medical needs, including CRPS and other chronic pain disorders.

Dr. Schumacher also serves on the Board or Executive Committee of the YMCA of Greater New Orleans, AVALA Hospital, St. Scholastica Academy, and the Harvard Orthopaedic Alumni Association. He is a Founding Physician of the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation.
